What a 501(c)(3) can actually get, and what it costs to keep
Google gives an approved nonprofit up to $329 a day of search advertising. Google also states, on its own support page, that this is “a limit, not a guarantee of spend” and lists six requirements an account has to hold or it is suspended without notification. That gap between what a program offers and what an organisation keeps runs through everything below, which is why this page is ordered by how reliably you get something rather than by how much it is nominally worth.
37 programs · 20 granted on verification · 14 conditional on work · 3 with changed terms · 0 closed
Almost nothing below is obtainable without these three, and the second one is the reason a working website is infrastructure rather than marketing.
An IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter.
A working website on your own domain, over HTTPS, with unique content and a clear mission statement. This is an eligibility requirement for Google, Microsoft and Canva, not a recommendation.
Confirmation of your nonprofit status. Every program below checks it before it issues anything, and the check is not the same one twice.
Who gets excluded. Who is excluded varies by program, and it varies more than any summary suggests, so check it per program rather than assuming. Google's programs exclude schools, universities, hospitals and healthcare, and government bodies outright. GitHub's eligibility rule requires an organisation to be "non-governmental, non-academic, non-commercial, and non-political". Anthropic goes the other way and admits K-12 public and private schools plus named healthcare provider types such as Critical Access Hospitals and Federally Qualified Health Centers. Microsoft excludes schools, universities, government, financial institutions, professional associations, sports organisations and political groups. Two further patterns recur: an organisation operating under a parent 501(c)(3) umbrella is often rejected where the program requires your own EIN, and churches and religious organisations are generally accepted with a charitable mission though some providers decide case by case.
Granted once you are verified
Apply once and receive it. Individually these are modest, together they are the reliable floor, and they do not need maintaining or defending. Do these first: several of them are what the larger programs check for.

About $1,300 a year saved on the Plus tier money you would otherwise spend
What you get
A donated annual QuickBooks Online subscription. Plus, five users, for an $80 a year administrative fee against roughly $1,380 retail, about 94% off. Advanced, 25 users, for $170 a year against roughly $3,300 retail.
Eligibility
501(c)(3) with an operating budget under $10 million
One donated subscription per organisation for life, renewable annually
Pitfalls
Payroll add-ons are not part of the donated subscription.
It cannot be applied to an existing QuickBooks account; the data has to be migrated.
The administrative fee is payable every year, and on a single-seat product a fee like it can eat the saving outright.

Reach and fundraising tooling rather than money indirect
What you get
Link Anywhere cards, which "let you link supporters to any external URL" from a video. YouTube Giving features for fundraising. Creator Academy lessons written for nonprofits.
Note
The intake recorded that YouTube Giving passes 100% of the donation with YouTube covering transaction fees, that funds route through a third party and can take up to two months, that payouts under $10 are annual, and that the native donate button often needs a creator to start the fundraiser. None of that is on the program page read here, so all four are unconfirmed.
Eligibility
YouTube Giving features are "currently available in the U.S." only
Eligibility is handled through Google for Nonprofits rather than stated on the program page
Pitfalls
With YouTube Giving the nonprofit receives 100% of the donation and YouTube covers transaction fees, but funds route through Network for Good and can take up to two months. Under $10, payouts are annual.

Pitfalls
Through PayPal Giving Fund the nonprofit does not receive full donor contact details; PPGF owns the donor relationship. Payouts can be monthly.
Below about $134 a donation Stripe is cheaper, above it PayPal is.
Depends entirely on volume mailed. The intake estimated roughly 30% to 60% off commercial rates, which is not on the USPS pages read here and is not published as a claim money you would otherwise spend
What you get
Reduced postage on bulk USPS Marketing Mail for authorised nonprofit organisations.
Eligibility
One of the categories USPS authorises: religious, educational, scientific, charitable, and prevention of cruelty to animals among others
Holding 501(c)(3) status is not sufficient on its own. USPS states plainly that "A nonprofit status from the IRS does not automatically qualify you to mail at nonprofit prices"
Apply on PS Form 3624 with documentation of the organisation's operation
Not eligible
Governmental organisations, and further categories listed in Publication 417 section 2-3.2
What you must keep doing
Keep mailing. Publication 417 covers "Mailing Frequency and Revocation for Nonuse", so an authorisation that goes unused can be revoked.
A $2,000 USD annual Azure Sponsorship grant, activated from Microsoft's Nonprofit Hub.
What you must keep doing
Activate within 90 days of the offer being issued. Microsoft: "If you don't activate the credit, it might expire and become inaccessible."
Renew every year by responding to the renewal email before the expiration date. The credit runs one year at a time.
Keep meeting the Microsoft 365 utilisation requirements. Microsoft: "Not meeting M365 utilization grant requirements might result in notifications or ineligibility for renewal." That is the same 85% rule the Microsoft 365 entry carries, and it can cost you this grant too.
Pitfalls
Unused credit does not roll over. Microsoft: "Your credit does not roll over from year to year." Neither do unused Microsoft 365 licences.
Only the primary contact named on the offer can activate it.
A valid credit card may be required at setup. You are not charged while you stay inside the $2,000, and you get a notification before the account converts to pay-as-you-go, but the conversion is the default behaviour on exceeding it.
Covers first-party Azure services only. Not reserved instances, not third-party marketplace offers, and not support plans.
Microsoft does not increase or extend the grant, and there is no application to ask for more. Beyond $2,000 it is standard pay-as-you-go.

Mailchimp 15%. Box.org and Okta for Good offer donated or discounted licences. Atlassian Community offers free or discounted Jira and Confluence. Slack, Airtable, Dropbox and DocuSign run nonprofit programs of their own, commonly 15% to 50% off or a donated tier.
Why these are grouped
The intake's own recommendation: percentages and terms in this group change often enough that publishing a fixed figure per vendor would be publishing something stale. Grouped with a pointer to each vendor's own nonprofit page rather than given false precision. Searching the company name plus "for nonprofits" reaches the primary source in one step.

Benevity
What you get
A free nonprofit profile that receives corporate donations, grants and volunteers. Benevity's own figures: "965+ Purpose-driven clients", "16M Supporters", "$16.8B In donations" facilitated. Benevity states "it's free for nonprofits to register, build a profile and receive donations, grants and volunteers".
Note
Benevity does not publish its fee structure on the nonprofit page. The intake recorded a variable cause support fee plus merchant fees averaging around 2.9% of a gross donation, and a 7% payout fee after three paper cheques with a $25 minimum and $100 maximum. Those figures are unconfirmed here, and "free to register" is not the same as free to receive, so ask before choosing a payout method.
Pitfalls
Registration being free says nothing about what is withheld from a donation before it reaches you. Get the current fee schedule in writing.
EFT rather than cheque is the cheaper payout route, per the intake.

Internal Revenue Service
Rough value
Depends on income. For an organisation whose revenue is all mission activity, effectively the whole federal income tax on it depends on your income
What you get
Exemption from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) for an organisation "organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes".
Eligibility
Organised and operated exclusively for an exempt purpose
"None of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual"
It "may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities" and may not participate in political campaign activity
Organisations meeting the 501(c)(3) requirements become eligible recipients of tax-deductible contributions under IRC section 170. Strictly a benefit to the donor, and one of the strongest fundraising arguments the status carries.

Kind of value
advertising, not cash
What you get
Up to $10,000 USD a month in Google Search advertising, text ads on the results page. Google states this "equates to a daily budget of $329 USD".
What the provider says about it
Google's own wording, on its own support page: "This is a limit, not a guarantee of spend. Your actual daily spend will depend on factors like your bids, keyword competitiveness, ad quality, targeting, and the number of people searching for your keywords." Unused budget does not carry to the next month.
On the annual figure
$10,000 a month works out to $120,000 a year, and that figure is widely quoted, but no month's unused allowance carries forward, so the annual number is arithmetic rather than a balance anyone holds.
Consequence of non-compliance
Google: "Any account found in violation of program policies is subject to automatic suspension without notification."
Eligibility
Current 501(c)(3) status
A working website on your own domain with unique content and SSL
Google for Nonprofits membership
Not eligible
Government entities
Hospitals and healthcare organisations
Schools and universities
Fiscally sponsored organisations without their own 501(c)(3)
What you must keep doing
Maintain a 5% click-through rate each month at the account level. Google: "If the CTR requirement isn't met for 2 consecutive months, your account will be temporarily deactivated."
Accounts created after 22 April 2019 must run conversion tracking and accrue at least one conversion per month. Valid conversions include donations, purchases, ticket sales, membership registrations, email sign-ups and volunteer sign-ups.
Accounts created after 22 April 2019 must use conversion-based Smart Bidding on every campaign: Maximize conversions, Maximize conversion values, Target CPA, or Target ROAS.
At least two unique sitelink ad assets.
Specific geotargeting, set to where the organisation's information and services are actually useful.
Respond to Google's periodic program surveys. Failing to participate results in deactivation.
Pitfalls
Text search ads only. No Display, no video.
The old $2 maximum cost-per-click cap is historical. Accounts since April 2019 must use Smart Bidding, which removes it, and Google's current budget page states no maximum bid.
Deactivation for low CTR is usually reversible: clear out the weak keywords, raise CTR, and resubmit for review.

Why this is not a free win
The licences are free; making them useful is an implementation project. NPSP is in End of Innovation, supported but receiving no new features.

The precondition to know about
The host must be a 501(c)(3) and already be a Claude for Nonprofits Team or Enterprise customer. The real cost of entry is a paid Claude subscription, and it is stated in the host FAQ rather than on the program's front page.
Scale, as recorded at intake

Light reporting: time tracking and monthly surveys
A plan for what happens after the fellowship
Commitment to the full twelve months
Pitfalls

Pitfalls
Ad Grants is not cloud credit. Google lists them as separate products and the two budgets are routinely confused.

State agencies
What you get
Varies by state, substantially. Many states grant a broad sales tax exemption on nonprofit purchases; California does not, offering only narrow exceptions such as the welfare exemption for poverty-relief organisations, requiring a request to CDTFA. Property tax relief in California runs through the Welfare Exemption, administered by BOE and the county assessor, needing an Organizational Clearance Certificate plus form BOE-267 filed with the county assessor by 15 February for a full exemption, and the organising documents must contain an irrevocable dedication clause. California franchise and income tax exemption is separate from federal and requires FTB 3500; federal recognition is not sufficient. Organisations under $50,000 in gross receipts file Form 199N.

What funders generally expect
Not a Grants.gov rule but general practice: operating history and track record, IRS Form 990, an organisational budget and a program description.
What you must keep doing

Pitfalls
Start earlier than you think. Grants.gov: "Allow up to 10 business days for SAM registration to become active. If information isn't available or verified, it could take weeks or months to complete SAM.gov registration." A grant deadline does not wait for it.

Programs whose terms moved
These still exist, and the terms that are still repeated across the web are the old ones. Applying on the strength of an outdated write-up wastes the application.

Rough value
The 300 granted Business Basic seats, against $6 per user per month list equivalent retail value
What you get
Microsoft 365 Business Basic granted free for up to 300 users: web and mobile Microsoft 365 apps, Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, essential security features, and 1 TB of cloud storage per user.
What changed
Business Premium and Office 365 E1 are discounted now, not granted. Microsoft's own nonprofit pricing lists Business Premium at $5.50 per user per month, E3 at $9.75 and E5 at $24, and Microsoft 365 Copilot at 15% off. Any write-up still describing Business Premium or E1 as a free grant is out of date, and there are many.

What you must keep doing
Maintain at least 85% active usage of all granted licences. Microsoft's eligibility page names "failure to remove unused grant licenses from an organization's subscription (i.e., failure to maintain at least 85% active usage of all granted licenses)" as grounds for losing access.
Complete Microsoft's required periodic attestation. "Failure to complete the required attestation may remove eligibility for Microsoft's nonprofit programs unless/until organization completes the required attestation."
Pitfalls
Business Basic excludes the desktop versions of Word, Excel and Outlook, Intune, and advanced threat protection.
Licences have to be changed by hand in the admin center; missing that risks data loss.
The 85% rule is the one most organisations do not know about. Granting seats to people who never sign in is what breaks it, and the penalty falls on future grants, not just this one.
$1,000 a month in Bing and Microsoft Audience Network advertising credits, extendable to $3,000 by adding $800 of your own spend.
What changed
There is no way to apply today. Microsoft's own page states: "The pilot is currently paused for grants on Microsoft's advertising network." Microsoft says it is "continuing to refine the program and product to support onboarding more nonprofits" and will "reach out with more information once we expand Ads for Social Impact to more organizations in the future." No reopening date is given, and organisations can register to be notified.
Why it is still listed here
Because other nonprofit-benefits lists still present it as an open program you can apply to, and it is not one. Knowing that saves the application. Note the precise status though: paused is what Microsoft says, and paused is not the same as retired.
Trap
If campaigns were left running after a grant ended, Microsoft charges the card on file.

What changed

We put a mission into words, file the registration, claim the grant and benefit programs that open once the determination letter arrives, worth up to $329 a day of Google advertising alone, and get an operating nonprofit found by donors, sponsors and volunteers.
Which of that applies depends on where you are. Tell us, and we will say what is open to you and in what order.

Methodology and Legal-Information Disclaimer
This page is generated from a structured research file, not written prose. 20 of 37 programs have been read against the provider's own page and carry the date; the remaining 17 are marked Verification in progress and should be confirmed before you rely on them. Programs change constantly, which is why the status and the date are on every entry rather than in a footer.
Dollar figures for donated software are equivalent retail value, not cash. Google Ad Grants is search advertising and cannot be redirected to anything else. 501c3.HELP is not a law firm or a CPA firm and this page is not legal or tax advice; the official source is linked beside each claim so you can check it yourself.
